Indonesia Highlights and A New Perspective on Travel: Thanks to Surfing in Varkala🏄‍♀️

Indonesia Highlights and A New Perspective on Travel: Thanks to Surfing in Varkala🏄‍♀️✨

Hey there,

My Indonesia trip was nothing short of magical. I’m back home now—rested, recovered, and excited to share some tips & highlights with you! ✈️✨

Here’s what to expect in this edition:

  • My Indonesia experience: how it was different compared to last year 🇮🇩
  • The Modern Nomads update: A big milestone and our next beach trip! 🌊🌴

Indonesia Experience 🇮🇩

Some of you know I spent a month in Indonesia last year. Even though I revisited many of the same spots, my experience this time was completely different.
Earlier this year, I got into surfing, and since then my whole approach to travel has changed. 🌏

Before that, I never saw myself as someone who could be into sports. But there’s something exciting about surfing in different countries and diving with mantas, whale sharks, and sea turtles. It adds another layer to your personality and to your travel experiences. 🏄‍♀️🤿

Adventure sports push you out of your comfort zone first, challenge you, make you feel invincible & then humble you. ✨
I’m still trying to articulate this shift in perspective, but I’ve found that it also brings in a sense of community. We connect to the places we visit, to nature, and to people on a deeper level.

I’d love to hear your stories about how activities and sports have changed your view of travel! Reply to this email—I’d love to read your experiences and feature them in the next edition! 📬💬

The Modern Nomads Group Trip

We at The Modern Nomads hosted our first-ever international retreat and it was hands down the best trip I’ve hosted so far.

9 people - 5 islands - infinite experiences
It was the trip of a lifetime!

From surfing, diving, island hopping, spotting manta rays, beach camping ⛺️, to epic beach parties 💃🏼🕺🏼, we did it all!

This has been one of our goals for 2024, and we couldn't be happier that it turned out so well. Special thanks to people who joined the trip and made this happen. ✨
Bigger and better things are happening soon for The Modern Nomads so stay tuned! 🚀

Earlier this year, I spent nearly 3 months in Varkala—surfing, eating local food, hanging out in toddy bars, watching the MOST beautiful sunsets, and making friends for life. I found my paradise… and what do you do when you find paradise? You keep going back. 😉

So we’re heading back to the tropical paradise in November! 🏖️

Whether you’re up for surfing, kayaking, partying, or just want to unwind by the beach and indulge in delicious food, this trip is for you! We bet you’ll find your own little piece of paradise too 😃

PS: You don’t need to know how to swim to start surfing!

🚨 LAST CALL FOR LADAKH! Is it safe? YES. Is it epic? Also YES. Hey there, We’ve had a lot of questions lately about the upcoming Ladakh road trip – and it’s time we clear the air. Here’s the deal: ❄️ Ladakh ≠ Kashmir 1️⃣ Ladakh is a separate Union Territory It has its own administration and a completely different ground reality. 2️⃣ Pahalgam to Leh is over 500 km away That’s a 14+ hour mountain drive — a different region altogether. 3️⃣ No history of unrest in Ladakh There's been no history...

The Perfect Summer Escape — See You in the Mountains? 🏔️ Hey there, Remember when we said we were heading to Bir for an epic escape?Let’s just say... Bir understood the assignment. 🎯 No alarms. No emails. Just you, the mountains, and the promise of a day packed with magic. 🌄 Here’s a glimpse of what went down: ✅ Cycling through pine forests on electric cycles, soaking in the views 🚲✅ Visiting a peaceful monastery for some quiet 🧘♂️✅ Exploring the offbeat Rajgundha valley 🏞️✅ Being surrounded...

Swipe Right on Ladakh: Perfect Roads, Wild Views, Zero Red Flags Last year, I hiked to Annapurna Base Camp solo—no guide, no group, just me, my backpack, and a whole lot of dal bhat. 🥾I tracked every rupee, and yep, it turned out way cheaper than an organized group tour. But here’s the thing: DIY trekking only works if you’ve done a few already, know how to plan, don’t panic easily, and can handle altitude sickness..For first-timers or not-so-seasoned adventurers, paying that extra money for...
